Efficiencies
Students should be at the forefront of all education spending — not tied up in duplicative contracts or maintenance of outdated buildings. Finding ways to be more efficient with school funds creates more opportunities for students and the teachers who serve them.
The Michigan School Aid budget includes funding to support feasibility studies and consolidation of services and schools through sections 11x, 12c, and 12d. School districts and intermediate school districts (ISDs) can apply for these grant funds through GEMS.
How does Launch Michigan help this work?
Launch Michigan serves in multiple roles to help schools and ISDs secure funding and realize efficiencies that provide long-term financial savings and increased opportunities for students.
COMMUNICATOR
What we do: We raise awareness of funds and opportunities.
Example: We provided information about funding opportunities to districts and ISDs through professional organizations and helped them envision potential uses of funds that support the district’s or ISD’s strategic goals.
CONNECTOR
What we do: We help you get answers to your questions and connect with resources and individuals.
Example: We informed Lansing School District about the 11x funding opportunity and used our network to help answer Lansing’s questions, ensuring they were well-prepared to secure the funding.
THOUGHT PARTNER
What we do: We work alongside you to brainstorm and problem-solve as you apply for and implement the funds.
Example: We collaborated with Northville Public Schools to brainstorm potential uses for 11x funding. Since then, Northville Public Schools secured funding to study improvements to the district’s fiber network.
CHAMPION
What we do: We help share your story to build community support.
Example: We featured Lansing School District in this case study. We will continue to share success stories and shared challenges through spotlights and communications.
ADVOCATE
What we do: We advocate for the preservation of funds.
Example: In FY 2024, Launch Michigan advocated for $245 million for school consolidation and infrastructure funds—and will continue to do so.
